AC Milan forward Rafael Leao is the latest Jorge Mendes client said to be moving to Everton as the media continue to anticipate what players might be coming once Nuno Espirito Santo is confirmed as manager.

The search for the new Everton boss has become a little like waiting for a new Pope to be proclaimed, it seems to be a highly secretive almost mystical process although we won’t be anticipating any white smoke to be released from Goodison Park once it’s finally all over!

Well as we continue to be left on tenderhooks waiting to be put out of our misery as it were, comes another report that a player who is represented by Mendes the Portuguese agent and close pal of Santo, is a target of the Blues.

That player Leao is one who has actually been linked before and who has been plying his trade in Italy’s Serie A with Milan.

The Italian media claim the Rossinari are ready to let Leao leave for around 30 million Euros and that given he is Mendes’ client, his next destination might well be to the Toffees.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

These stories are going to proliferate like anything if Santo is confirmed and we can expect a whole summer of such rumours.

Leao is another of those talented young European forward players of whom big things are expected. However, Everton have had their fingers burnt buying a youthful striker from Italian football, with Moise Kean of course.

Kean’s move from Juventus didn’t work out and he looks almost certain to be playing somewhere else again next season after being on loan at PSG.

As for the Portuguese forward, he is certainly a player with good qualities.

He’s big and powerfully built but has the close control, skill, strength and pace to take on and beat opponents successfully and he’s fine finisher too although he hasn’t scored many in Serie A.

Leao also likes to play in wide positions as well as up front so could he be a good alternative to operate wide in a three-man attack or as support for Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

Well of course this is all just speculative stuff but with Josh King released, Kean very likely to leave, as I’ve said and Cenk Tosun hopefully sold or going back on loan somewhere, then the Blues will need another striker.
