More rumours are surfacing today linking Everton with a move this summer for Wolves central defender Connor Coady.

All this of course is further to the now seemingly inevitable appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as the new Everton manager. We’re still waiting for confirmation of this and so it’s not certain, but it does seem that there is real momentum behind this.

Well certainly the media are assuming it’s a done deal and so the stories about his former players coming to Goodison Park are starting to emerge in force.

The latest concerns English defender Coady who is now being strongly linked with a move to the Toffees, once, presumuming he does, Santo takes charge of his new team.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay of Santo’s Wolves side for the past few years and has become an England international featuring in Gareth Southgate’s recent squads including this one for the European Championships.

He’s certainly a solid and consistent defender who obviously has plenty of experience playing in Santo’s favoured three-man defence over the past several seasons. It’s not certain he would want to follow his former boss but there did appear to be strong bonds between the players and the Portuguese manager.

So he wouldn’t be a bad addition, but it will be a question of how much he might cost and at 28 is he a good investment as opposed to younger alternatives?

Everton have been linked with a succession of new central defenders in the run-up to this summer transfer window.

With doubts re-surfacing over the ability of Mason Holgate to cut it in the Premier League, Michael Keane’s erratic form and the injury problems that have plagued Yerry Mina, it looked like Carlo Ancelotti would be seeking to bring in a new player in this position.

The rumours centred on a few names but in particular Napoli’s Khalidou Koulibaly.

With Ancelotti’s departure it does seem be unlikely that Koulibaly would have come to Goodison Park without his former boss being in charge.

Other stories linked Everton to a move for Geilson Bremer of Torino and Turkish defender Merih Demiral who also plays in Italy with Juventus.

Demiral is apparently still on the radar of the club and stories persist that the Toffees still want to try and sign him but if Santo is the new boss, Coady might prove to be a more realistic target.
