The saga drags on and the latest claims are that Everton are still talking with a number of candidates and that no final decision has been made on a new manager!

As a result it seems that Everton haven’t yet made up their mind who they want as their new manager, despite the strength of the rumours that Nuno Espirito Santo was a done deal.

So where are we then? It certainly looked as though the club were increasingly likely to appoint the Portuguese coach to the job a few days ago, but now the noises indicate that this perhaps isn’t the case.

It’s hard to know what to make of all this to be honest. On the one hand it can be argued that it’s important the board take the time and do everything possible to feel fully confident they have got this decision right.

Because, if the Toffees can find the right man who can stay for two or three years at least and build a competitve side that is in contention for the top six and perhaps even, whisper it, win something, then the Blues will go into their new stadium with a solid foundation, whether that same manager is still there or not.

That stadium build is now officially underway and it is symbolic of the huge changes taking place behind the scenes while this managerial soap opera continues.

Getting a good, competitive side in place on the pitch will be very important when the team move into that ground with 55,000 plus seats to be filled and when it might be potentially more difficult to spend considerable sums that might still be available now.

On the other hand, another view is that time is moving on and Everton do need to try and get this decision made quickly as the transfer window opens and there is a need to get new players in as soon as possible as the scramble for reinforcements by Premier League clubs commences.

The new season starts in two months and so there isn’t that much time to get a new coach in place, get his staff (which in Santo’s case seem very large!) and identify and bring in the players he wants, before it kicks off.

On that topic it seems increasingly likely the Toffees will be signing Matheus Nunes very shortly. There have been repeated stories in the media that a deal is close to being done for the Brazilian – not Portuguese – player.

Nunes is yet another young South American talent making his way in European football who is highly regarded and considered to have a great future in the game.

The Sporting Lisbon player certainly looks like he could add something positive to the Blues midfield. Nunes likes to get on the ball and run with it so adding the ball-carrying element for so long missed from Everton’s midfield and attack.

The Brazilian is also is a creative player with good technical skill and he’s got good energy and will track back and win the ball, so would offer some additional defensive support to Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan as well.

We’ve looked at this player recently and it would seem that he’s possibly coming regardless who becomes Everton manager, or is he? I suppose it’s good to see positive moves for new talent being made but we are still it seems no further forward as to who is going to be his new manager.
