Denzel Dumfries is shining for his home nation Netherlands in Euro 2020

International competitions are a platform for budding young players as well as the talented players playing in lower leagues to make a name for themselves on the big stage and show the world what they are capable of, if given the chance. So far in the 2020 Euros, we have seen the likes of Lukáš Hrádecký, Manuel Locatelli, Patrik Schick, etc shine for their respective national sides.

One such name to shine for their national team this Euro is that of Netherlands full back Denzel Dumfries, who has provided the Oranje with 2 goals, netting the winner against Ukraine in their 3-2 win over Andriy Shevchenko’s men, and the other one against Austria and also earned a penalty for his side, which Memphis Depay scored in their 2-0 win over Austria. Dumfries has been a revelation so far for the Oranje.

Holland kept 2 clean sheets in the group stages despite having a tricky group in the form of Austria, North Macedonia and Ukraine, with Dumfries playing a total of 225 minutes in those games and starting in all 3 of those games. Netherlands finished in the top spot in Group C, after their 3-0 win against the eliminated North Macedonia.

Dumfries began his career at Sparta Rotterdam in 2014 and helped them win promotion to the Eredivisie in 2016, the same year in which he won the Eerste Divisie Talent of the Year Award. He later went on to join Heerenveen in 2017 before signing for PSV Eindhoven in 2018 on a five-year contract. His exploits at Euro 2020 has put him in the limelight and has seen him linked to a number of clubs this summer.
