Denzel Dumfries Style Of Play

PSV Eindhoven finished as runners-up in the Eredivisie, losing out on the title to rivals AFC Ajax by a margin of 16 points, yet Dumfries’ stats were excellent, providing 2 goals and 6 assists in the 30 appearances for PSV in the Eredivisie and 1 goal and 1 assist in the 6 games he played in the Europa League for his club.

His defensive stats are pretty decent as well considering that PSV are a possession heavy side with an average of 56.6% possession each game in the Eredivisie. He completed 1.09 tackles per 90 for his side and has 1.75 interceptions per 90 in the 2020-21 season in the Eredivisie for PSV. (stats via FBref)

He has averaged 2 shots per game in the European Championship so far. On the flip side, he does lose possession quite a lot as he always looks to get involved and create chances for his team but he isn’t afraid to make mistakes.

Despite being dispossessed often due to his attacking nature, he is only dribbled past 0.7 times per 90. His discipline could surely improve because at the moment he commits 1.5 fouls per game, however stepping up to a side like Everton could see him improve his game while playing in the Premier League with much more responsibility on his shoulders. Denzel Dumfries could prove to be a long term option for the Toffees on the right hand side of the defence.
