Today’s transfer rumours switch from defenders to forwards as Everton are apparently making contact with Benfica and Switzerland star Haris Seferovic.

The 29-year-old forward has been one of the best performers in the Euros and helped Switzerland reach an unexpected quarter-final before they eventually lost to Spain last night. Now he is supposedly on the radar of Everton and perhaps other clubs too.

Benfica might be prepared to sell this summer and according to the reports circulating, the Toffees are leading the chase for him.

The report mentions how Seferovic’s performances for his country ‘awakens the English greed’ hardly the most diplomatic way to talk about other countries foootball clubs!

Anyway, the jist of it is that the Blues are ready to consider a move for him this summer. Seferovic ticks some of the boxes Everton are looking at, he’s a left-footed forward who can play wide or throught the middle.

But his age is a negative and doesn’t fit with Marcel Brands approach to his transfer dealings. And he’s also proved to be a very inconsistent player. Over the past three seasons he’s scored 23, then 5 and then 22 goals, despite making virtually the same number of appearances in each season!

Well these stats are not the most encouraging and certainly the Toffees don’t need another hugely inconsistent attacking player. And of course there are other, younger alternatives if the Blues are looking for more attacking options.

In more transfer stoires it’s claimed Arsenal are in fact still going to win the race for Brighton’s England centre-back Ben White despite alledged last-minute interest from Everton.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

This report from football.london claims that the Gunners are still in pole position to sign the young central defender this summer, although White is apparently ‘impressed’ with Everton’s speedy moves to sign him.

And the north London club have also apparently moved into the lead in the pursuit of Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berg.

The Norweigan international is a player that the Blues were strongly linked with a few months back.

Following United’s relegation, Berg is a player they may well have to cash in on and as a solid and energetic midfielder he is likely to attract plenty of interest and a pretty big fee.

All these rumours of course are designed to prompt interest and readers so as always we need to take them with a pinch a salt.

But now that the club finally have a manager in place it’s critical to get moving in terms of player recruitment, however much of that there may be, with existing first-team players back in traning on Monday.
