Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a terrific 2020-21 season with Everton.

The official transfer window was introduced in 2002. General silliness, nonsense, and rumours have always been part of the package surrounding transfers.

The advent of social media has increased the silliness to almost Pythonesque levels.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert -Lewin’s growth as centre-forward and his 21 goals last season earned him a spot in the England Euros’ squad and made him the subject of a number of claims about where he will be playing next season.

No matter the rumours, no matter the reports – DCL isn’t going anywhere. He’ll be playing at Goodison Park and continuing to prove why he belongs in the sacred No. 9 jersey.

First of all, Duncan Ferguson. The big man is coming across as almost a gentle giant these days. But if you know your history it’s enough to think twice about upsetting Big Dunc. Ferguson’s reaction to the news DCL was leaving could well be volcanic.

He might say something along the lines of  “Dominic, lad, you cannae be leaving, I’ve no finished teaching you how to be a centre-forward.” OK, Ferguson probably wouldn’t say that he’d bellow it and stand up to his full nine-foot height to add to the intimidation. OK, Ferguson isn’t nine feet tall, he’s 6-foot-4. What’s that exaggeration in a story about a transfer. Good grief, real fake news.

Rumours from various sources, including a publication whose name doesn’t get mentioned on Merseyside without a vulgar adjective in front of it have Calvert-Lewin going to Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Spurs and the German International Philosophers, who are looking for a replacement for striker Karl Marx, who has changed his allegiance to Russia.

Calvert-Lewin said he is currently ignoring all the rumours, while he is with the England squad.

He told the Liverpool Echo,

"I just don’t look at  my phone"

Here are some of the reasons why DCL won’t be leaving Everton.
