With the arrival of a new manager, Everton transfer business have also picked momentum as areas for improvement and transfer targets have been identified. Now, it’s up to Marcel Brands and Rafael Benitez to work in tandem and try and bring best suited players to the club. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Pierluigi Gollini are players that Everton are reportedly interested in.

Everton brought Robin Olsen on loan last summer, to provide competition to Jordan Pickford. The Toffees even had the desire to redeem him permanently but in the end the Swede returned back to the Italian capital.

The Toffees are now without a backup keeper and will have to go into the market unless they decide to promote Joao Virginia as the second choice. However, news sources claim that Everton will go into the market and search for a Pickford deputy.

According to Tutto Atalanta, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have taken information on Atalanta keeper Pierluigi Gollini. La Dea signed Juan Musso from Udinese which has raised doubts over the future of Gollini. It appears that the Bolognese’s future lies away from Bergamo. Both the Premier League clubs have taken information and are considering a proposal. Gollini has a market value of £16 million (Transfermarkt) and Atalanta wont be selling for less than his market value.

Everton will battle with Spurs for Pierluigi Gollini as well as Takehiro Tomiyasu

Everton and Spurs are also set to battle for another Serie A player, Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Japanese defender is a strong target for Spurs with the North London club even tabling one bid of €20 million for the versatile defender.

As per Il Resto di Carlino, Spurs won’t have an easy route to Tomiyasu’s signing as Everton, West Ham and Arsenal also remain in the fray. The market value stands at £18 million (Transfermarkt) but Bologna expects a higher offer for the 22 year old who has shined for the Italian side last season.

In Tomiyasu, any team will be getting a versatile monster who can slot anywhere acorss the backline and provide excellent defensive cover. The Japanese is quite comfortable in playing at right back, an area that Everton need to upgrade this summer. Seamus Coleman’s career clock is ticking and the Toffees will need to find his successor.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Denzel Dumfries is a target but Inter Milan are said to be closer to his signing. In such case, Tomiyasu could emerge as an alternative and ticks the boxes. The competition for the 22 year old makes it difficult for Everton to snatch Tomiyasu, especially when Spurs are still favourites to sign the Japan international.

The Royal Blues are battling Spurs on two different fronts. Ironically, these two sides experienced identical challenges going into the summer. Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho towards the end of last season and were in search of a new boss this summer.

Everton, on the other hand, were left shell shocked when Real Madrid came calling for Carlo Ancelotti and the Italian left Merseyside. The managerial circus unfolded for both sides as several candidates were analyzed, contacts were established, talks fell through but finally, both sides have a manager at the helm.

The respective boards of both the clubs now have their work cut out as they try to seal transfers and provide their new managers with enough firepower in the squad. From Everton’s point of view, signing a right back and a backup keeper will be high on priority list and so far they are on the right track.
