Reports in the Sunday Mirror claim Rafa Benitez will raid his former club Newcastle United for a replacement player should Richarlison leave Everton this summer.

That player would be Allan Saint-Maximin who has proved a big hit on Tyneside since his move there around the time Benitez left St James Park. Would he be as much of a success at Everton?

The Frenchman has had a pretty good time in the northeast of England and at 24 is at in the ideal age range at any rate.

He’s a player with pace and ability on the ball and while he generally plays on the left he can play across the forward line. Last season though he didn’t exactly set the Premier League on fire only netting three times although he also contributed another four assists.

Maybe he needs better players around him to improve those numbers but the question is will he get that at Everton?

Anyway, compare those numbers with the Blues Brazilian forward who scored seven goals and added three assists as well in what was a below-par campaign by his recent standards last term.

So looking at that stats there isn’t quite so compelling a case for Saint-Maximin to take Richarlison’s place at Goodison Park.

This is all dependent too on the Toffees Brazilian star leaving for a new club this summer. Real Madrid, having pinched Everton’s manager, now apparently want Richarlison to join him in the Spanish capital.

This move seems unlikely to happen given that Real are along with most Spanish clubs pretty cash-strapped at the moment and so they are probably not going to be able to stump up the necessary cash to prise Richarlison away, even if the Blues were willing to sell.

The ex-Watford player is still away with the national team and having lost in the final of the Copa America last night, he’s now off to Japan for the Olympics.

This one then, like so many other rumours, doesn’t seem to have much in the way of substance and I can’t see Saint-Maximin coming to Goodison Park during this transfer window.
