Richarlison has been an enigmatic presence in the Everton side ever since his £37 million switch from Watford in 2018. First under Marco Silva and then under Carlo Ancelotti, from time to time, the Brazilian has shown his class in the Royal Blue jersey.

There have been periods where he’s failed to net goals, been inconsistent but when he gets in his groove, there is not a better sight than him dribbling past defenders and scoring goals in Merseyside.

Ahead of the start of last season, there was some talk regarding his future. There was a reported bid by Barcelona that was turned down by Everton. Then manager Ancelotti had convinced the former Fluminense forward to stay in Merseyside for one more season.

Following season, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck a beautiful striking partnership, contributing close to 50% of the team’s goals. Ancelotti has now departed to Real Madrid and Richarlison is now mulling over his future in Merseyside.

New Everton boss Rafa Benitez wants to directly talk with Richarlison

There were reports that Ancelotti would like to sign Richarlison at Real Madrid, causing further heartache to the fans. However, reliable journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Richarlison’s future.

Richarlison was an integral part of the Brazil squad that reached the Copa America final and will also be a part of the Brazil Olympics team travelling to Tokyo. As per Romano on CBS Sports, the 24 year old will talk to Everton regarding his future before leaving for the Olympics. Ancelotti admires Richarlison but so far has not started any negotiations.

Furthermore, new boss Rafa Benitez wants to speak to the 24 year old directly and try and convince him to stay at Goodison Park for one more season. Benitez is expected to ring changes to the current Everton side but will be aiming to build a core with players like Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Allan, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane.

Convincing Richarlison to stay will be vital for the next season. In fact, this might even help Benitez earn some brownie points in the eyes of a certain faction of Everton fans who expressed disappointment over Benitez’s arrival due to his past ties with Liverpool.

The former Watford star can be a leading force of the team as we usher into the Rafa Benitez era. The dangerous duo of Richarlison and DCL produced some fantastic performances and the fans will want to see more of them this season.
