Stories continue to circulate that Everton are still keen to bring Barcelona and France defender Clement Lenglet to Goodison Park.

This rumour first surfaced a while back but then went quite again. However, reports from Spain continue to link Everton with a move for the central defender.

This is not a position that would seem a major priority for additions given that the Toffees already have Yerry Mina, Micheal Keane, Mason Holgate, Ben Godfrey and the two returning loanees, Jarrad Branthwaite and Lewis Gibson.

But we’ve seen constant stories about a new centre-back signing both under previous manager Carlo Ancelotti and now since Rafa Benitez took over. Lenglet is one of those players.

Barcelona are apparently ready to listen to offers for the French international as they face huge financial problems and desparately need to offload squad players and reduce their costs.

Lenglet has considerable strengths he’s a very fine passer of the ball and is solid in the air so in theory he could make a good addition (presuming the clubs had already offloaded at least of the existing central defenders) especially if he’s available very cheaply.

He’s not the only centre-back who is being relentlessly linked with the Blues as Juventus star Merhil Demiral is also constantly associated with a move to Merseyside.

The latest stories claim Everton will face competition from German side Borussia Dortmund for the Turkey international’s signature.

All these endless rumours and claims appear increasingly circular in nature and it’s obviously impossible to say what, if anything, is true about the stories.

Hpwever, as the Echo points out the fact that Director of Football Marcel Brands is over in the United States at the moment, would seem to indicate that not much is happening on the transfer front at the moment.
