More rumours continue that Everton are making concrete steps to secure the signature of Lazio forward Joaquin Correa.

The Spanish forward has been associated with a move to Everton recently as the latest in a long line of tenuous links to new players.

Now the Italian press claim the Blues have made ‘significant effort’ to bring the Argentine player in this summer.

Correa is supposedly available for a knock down fee and this is part of the reason the Toffees are being heavily linked with him.

This is another slightly odd connection as although he’s a decent footballer, Correa wouldn’t seem to add much to Everton’s attack that they really need.

He doesn’t score a lot of goals despite plenty of games and while he can play up front there are I think better choices for alternative forward options to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Another attacking player the Blues are supposedly looking at is Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

According to reports United are willing to let Martial leave after having splashed the cash on young England winger Jadon Sancho.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

France international Martial has had a very inconsistent time at Old Trafford being in and out of the side and his future seemed very uncertain even before the arrival of Sancho.

Now, his time at United seems almost certainly over and rumours have started that one of his possible destinations might be Goodison Park.

A Toffees move for Martial seems unlikely not least because his wages, around £250,000 a week, are prohibitive to say the least.

Everton have just managed to get one of their highest earners off their books as Brazilian forward Bernard has finally sealed a long-mooted move to a new club in the Middle East and he was ‘only’ earning about half what Martial is on.

Well given that and his very erratic form anyway, this seems a story that can be put aside under the heading ‘extremely unlikey’.
