Everton will meet one of Mexico’s biggest teams on Wednesday when they face Pumas in the Florida Cup. The Mexico City-based team has a rivalry with Club America’ known as the “El Capitol Classic.”
It’s the second competitive match for the Blues in Florida and just in the first game against Millonarios, there will be tons of changes as players seek to gain fitness, and to be honest, it’s still likely to be bloody hot in Florida.
So what can be expected? Here are some things that may be seen for Rafael Benitez’s squad in their next game in Florida Cup.
He’s probably going to mix up the starting 11. It’s likely Begovic will start again. Thinking Benitez may not alter the back four to start. But of course, changes will ring at half-time and other periods of the match.
Jean-Phillipe Gbmain and Tom Davies didn’t get much of a run out. So it’s possible the Blues’ boss may give Gbamin and Davies more time.
Gbamin was impressive in his appearance, breaking up play and striding forward almost arrogantly. He looked powerful, strong, and confident. He’s had a horrible start to his career at Everton with injuries. So the staff will probably want to bring him on slowly. Perhaps 45 minutes this time out.
Davies played out wide in his limited time on the pitch and that’s not his position. He’s most comfortable in the middle and Benitez should want to look at him there.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan had trouble with the press against Millonarios, forcing Everton into trying to go long too often. So Davies and Gbamin may have a shot as the two sitting midfielders. With Gbamin give more license to roam.
