Everton’s striker against Pumas

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a break after the Euros, Moise Kean started as the lone striker against Millianarios in Florida Cup last time around. Kean, who had a successful loan spell at Paris St. Germain last season, wasn’t bad but he wasn’t great.

Part of it had to do with the lack of good service to him as Everton were often forced to bypass midfield and try and launch long balls for the Italian international to chase. That was no fun in the heat and humidity.

He did have a good chance when he headed over the bar. It was a chance he probably would have taken later on in the season as his timing and anticipation grew.

The 21-year-old made it clear that he would like to return to PSG, but with Everton slapping a price on him quoted as high as £70 million, the French giants were not willing to open their wallet.

Right now, Kean is the main back-up behind DCL and unless Everton brings in another striker, Kean is likely to remain at Goodison.

Nathan Broadhead played the second half and was impressive.

He was able to take advantage of his pace and Everton’s better play in the second half. He raced into the box to win Everton’s penalty in normal time, which Demarai Gray (more on him next) buried.

Broadhead also converted his kick in the shootout. The 23-year-old Welshman did have a chance to win the game when he broke away and had a one-on-one with the ‘keeper, but was unable to convert.
