Everton new signings Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray and Asmir Begovic

Andros Townsend and Damarai Gray may prove to be big bargains based on the limited viewing from the Florida Cup.

Townsend, who arrived on a free, started the first half playing wide right and giving Everton something they had been wanting for a long time…a left-footed right-sided wide player.

He showed what he was capable of when he cut in and rattled the bar with a powerful shot, which resulted in a great exclamation from the commentator of

"My grandmother’s sweet apple pie.!”"

That’s something that the Street End may work into a Townsend song if he happens to continue with that kind of performance.

The 30-year-old, who was let go by Crystal Palace, was happy to be reunited with Benitez, who he played for at Newcastle.

Gray, who joined Everton in a £1.5 million transfer from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, sparkled. The Premier League winner with Leicester played just behind Broadhead and confidently stepped up to take the penalty Broadhead won in the second half.

He buried it as well as his kick in the shootout. He told evertontv

"I fancied it [penalty in regulation time], I thought it would be a good way to get off the mark in my first game. I am feeling confident… and as I pick up fitness, hopefully, I can take that into the new season. I felt good, I felt sharp, I was happy to score the penalty and for the team to win the shootout. It is positive."
