Everton will be aiming to clear deadwood in this summer transfer window

With the summer transfer window open, despite the financial concerns for every club due to the pandemic, enthusiastic fans of their respective clubs expect a swirl of ins and outs. Everton is no exception. The team needs to improve the squad quality by reinforcing certain areas that have lacked quality and depth. But in order to seamlessly welcome new signings, attention must also be paid to offloading fringe players and clearing the deadwood.

New boss Rafa Benitez already stated that the club has spent a mammoth sum over the last few years and even though the club will be ambitious in the market they need to be careful regarding the Financial Fair Play rules.

Everton have done some low key smart business already, adding Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic on free transfers to bolster the squad depth while Demarai Gray has been signed for €2 million. None of these have been Hollywood signings or statement signings but these signings will be a step in the right direction in solving the underlying issues that haunted the team last season and potentially even cost them a place in Europe.

On the outgoing front, Bernard has joined Sharjah after spending three years at Goodison Park. This deal is not a huge financial gain as the rumoured fee is just €1 million but Everton have managed to get £120,000 per week off their wage books. The Everton board will further hope to trim the squad by selling players and even loaning youngsters who do not have realistic first team opportunities this season.

Let’s take a look at the Everton squad and which players stay and become a core part of the team, which players could leave or be shipped out on loan:
