Everton: Which Toffee players should Rafa Benitez Loan, Keep or Sell
Defenders:
Seamus Coleman: Keep
It goes without saying that the Everton captain is one of the most influential leaders on the pitch and has a vocal voice in the dressing room. Even though his performances have dipped slightly due to age and injury issues, the Irishman still produced some fine performances last season.
Everton does need to search for Coleman’s successor to smoothen the transition but there’s no possibility for the 32 year old to leave the club.
Jonjoe Kenny: Sell
The development of Everton academy product Jonjoe Kenny as a successor to Seamus Coleman hasn’t quite turned out as expected. The Englishman did have a fruitful spell at Schalke in 2019-20 season and was expected to be a reliable squad option for Carlo Ancelotti. However, the 24 year old was loaned to Celtic in the second half of the campaign where he did have some impressive outings.
The Toffees are actively looking for a right back and are in a tussle with Inter Milan to sign Denzel Dumfries. Everton’s strong desire to sign a right back indicates their stance on Kenny. The sale of Kenny can bring a decent price which can be reinvested in signing another player.
Michael Keane: Keep
Michael Keane was an integral part of the core group last season and was a rock solid option in defence. The Englishman was arguably the leader in the heart of the defence and put in tremendous performances in the rearguard. Rafa Benitez will trust Keane and will likely prefer him as first choice centre back.
Yerry Mina: Sell
There have been several reports stating that Benitez doesn’t trust Yerry Mina and is open to selling him. The Colombian is reportedly on £120,000 per week wages and if Benitez isn’t going to keep the former Barcelona man in his plans, selling him will be the best option.
Furthermore, if Kalidou Koulibaly or Clement Lenglet are to come in, a sale will be necessary to make space in the squad and lighten the wage budget. Mina at 26 has good market value and his sale could benefit the Toffees’ transfer activity.
Ben Godfrey: Keep
There’s no way Ben Godfrey could leave the club. He was reliable, versatile and a beast in the backline. His ferocious tackles won more applause than goals scored by Everton forwards and has become one of the most exciting players at the club. At 23, he’s yet to reach his peak level and is still honing and polishing his skills.
