One player who has in the past popped onto the radar regarding potential Everton transfer targets is Wolfsburg forward Josip Brekalo.

Everton are again being claimed to be considering a summer move for the Croatian forward, a player who they have been previously linked with.

Now according to several reports Brekalo is ready to move on from Wolfsburg this summer and has handed in a transfer request to the Bundesliga side.

After having brought in Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray the Blues have been heavily linked with signing another wide attacker and Brekalo certainly fits that profile.

The Croatian international has had a solid few seasons in Germany and at 23 is the perfect age for the sort of player profile the Blues are generally interested in.

Brekalo is a very versatile forward who can basically play anywhere up front or out wide. He tends to prefer the left-wing but is equally happy on either flank or as number ten.

I think a player this versatile could fit in well with how the Toffees may end up playing next season, if the US pre-season games are anything to go by.

Yes it’s only been a couple of pre-season matches, but there have been hints in how Everton lined-up against both Millionarios and Pumas to indicate they may have a fluid and interchangable front three or four with the wingers switching flanks.

For example against Millionarios Gray played as a number ten and then in last night’s match with Pumas he played on both flanks switching with Townsend and provided the pass from which Moise Kean scored the Blues winner.

This could be a very effective strategy creating a different and more flexible look to the team’s attack that will maximise the effectivness of the Toffees forward options.

In addition, Brekalo is a fairly productive player too with a total of eleven goals and five assists last season in both club and international football.

According to a valuation from transfermartkt.co.uk he would also be available for a very reasonable fee around £10 million, if he does indeed want a move this summer.
