As news about Denzel Dumfries goes quiet Everton are being linked with a move for yet another new full-back; Mexico’s Jorge Sanchez.

The young defender has been catching the eye of Everton and others while playing in the Olympics as his country reached the semi-finals where they are playing Richarlison’s Brazil today.

It’s hard to keep count of the right-backs being associated with a move to Goodison Park this year after rumours about this player and that going on and on.

And the seemingly never-ending unsuccessful pursuit of a new right sided defender by the Toffees has become a constant pressing background headache, which hasn’t been resolved in the past few transfer windows despite other many other player comings and goings.

At one point this summer it looked like the Blues were finally about to sort this issue out and were in the driving seat to sign a player in Dumfries, who has made his mark for Holland in another of this summer’s delayed international tournaments.

But, after being constantly linked with the Dutchman, those stories have gone dead and it looks as though Everton have been priced out of a move for him by their precarious finances.

This is of course very frustrating and while manager Rafa Benitez has moved quickly to improve his wide attacking options, finding a quality player to replace the ageing Seamus Coleman is proving much more difficult.

Sanchez is the latest candidate and the Mexican international is apparently being tracked by both the Merseysiders and Tottenham.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The 23-year-old looks like a pretty solid right-back with a decent attacking contribution having notched five assists last season for Club America.

Of course playing in these Central and South American leagues it’s not the standard of the Premier League, but still they are decent stats.

And the Blues Director of Football Marcel Brands has a strong track record in the past of successfully identifying talented young players from that part of the world and bringing them to Europe.

Everton have also supposedly had scouts out at the Olympics as it represents a good chance to get a prolonged look at some emerging young talent. It seems Sanchez is one of those who have taken their chance to shine in front of these talent-spotters.

The Toffees have been searching for a new right-back for what seems an age and while Sanchez might not be the man in the end, it’s a search that surely has to be ended soon and with a new player brought in before the transfer window finishes in a months time.
