Ever since the start of the summer transfer window, one name that has regularly made headlines on the Everton side is Denzel Dumfries. The Toffees have been linked to the PSV Eindhoven defender all summer and were expected to be the favourites to land the Dutchman, thanks to Marcel Brands’ connections in the Netherlands.

Even when the Everton managerial upheaval was dominating the newsfeeds, reports kept on emerging about Everton’s interest in Dumfries. The quest for Seamus Coleman’s successor has dragged far too long than expected. Everton have targeted numerous players, from Max Aarons to Diogo Dalot to Mehmet Zeki Celik over the past two transfer windows but neither interest turned into a transfer to Goodison.

Brands’ previous association with PSV could have been a ray of hope that the Director of Football will get the deal over the line. The Euro 2020 happened and the supporters got even more excited about Dumfries who had a sensational quadrennial tournament despite the Netherlands exiting in the Round of 16.

For those who didn’t follow the Eredivisie ardently, EURO 2020 was the stage where they witnessed Dumfries and were left astounded by his skill and abilities. Roundabout the same time, Inter Milan sold Achraf Hakimi and were in search of a replacement. Thanks to his spectacular EURO 2020 campaign, Dumfries found himself linked to the Nerazzurri.

Inter Milan to make a bid for Everton target Denzel Dumfries after reaching an agreement with Mino Raiola

Now that a Champions League playing club had entered the mix, a deal looked difficult. Dumfries’ agent, Mino Raiola, was pushing for a move to a team that would play Champions League football next season. On the other hand, PSV want to make the maximum out of the Dutchman’s fruitful EURO campaign, wanting €15-€20 million for the 25 year old.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan have an agreement with Dumfries’ agent, Raiola, and are now preparing a bid for the 25 year old. The Nerazzurri are said to be preparing an offer of €15 million to acquire the services of Dumfries.

Everton remains in the mix but it appears that their pursuit of the PSV defender will suffer a blow should Inter make a formal offer in the coming days. As for Dumfries, his exit is almost guaranteed as was left out of the squad in the Dutch Super Cup game against Ajax.

The Serie A champions have an agreement in place with Raiola, indicating that Everton’s pursuit for a right back could once again end in disappointment.
