It looks increasingly likely Inter Milan centre-forward Romelu Lukaku is on his way back to England to one of his former clubs.. but it’s not Everton of course!

While no deal appears yet to have been finally done it seems that Chelsea are closing in on re-signing their former striker who made such a mark at Everton too from 2013-17.

Foootball is one strange game that’s for sure. Last season Lukaku scored prolifically and won the Serie A title with Inter, their first in a decade or so and seemed set for a great career in Italy but now it looks as though he’s heading back to west London once more.

Finances are the reason of course as there’s no way the Italian champions would be selling him otherwise and he’d almost certainly be staying put as well.

Chelsea like the two Manchester clubs United and City never seem to have a shortage of funds to go out and spend big or even smash their previous spending records.

So, if the Belgium star does return to the Premier League then Inter will obviously need to try and replace him.

That brings us to Moise Kean. The Toffees striker has had a pretty awful time since joining Everton two summers ago.

He struggled to settle and he had an embarassing run-in with temporary manager Duncan Ferguson when the big Scot brought him on and then yanked him off again minutes later.

Last year he went out on loan to PSG and enjoyed his time in France scoring goals and looking much happier there. PSG wanted to extend his loan but rightly Everton said pay a full fee.

Now he’s returned to Merseyside amid constant rumours that he will still leave this summer whether that back to Paris or possibly his former club Juventus.

With Lukaku coming back to Premier League, the story is that Inter will move for Kean now that their losing the Belgian international.

If that is the case and given he has had a tough time and didn’t seem to want to return to England, the Blues should be ready to sell, for the right price and not consider another loan deal.

In addition, with Inter now set to receive a massive amount for Lukaku Everton could be able to demand a fee around £40-50 million or so.

That is certainly not unreasonable given how much the club spent on him and his solid season last term.

That, together with any other fee they might get for players like James Rodriguez who is also very likely to move on and even now it seems perhaps Alex Iwobi, would give Rafa Benitez some much-needed funds to strengthen his side before the transfer window ends.
