Coincidently, Everton and Aston Villa have been duelling in the summer transfer window over several transfer targets. The Villians and the Toffees have been extensively linked to Leon Bailey and Dwight McNeil. Now, Villa and Everton could battle for third common target in Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Villa did manage to win the race for Leon Bailey, signing the Jamaican for £30 million. Meanwhile, McNeil’s gossip has diluted over the past few days but there was definite interest from both sides.

Everton and Rafa Benitez have done a respectable job in reinforcing the flanks with the transfers of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray. Benitez still wants to improve the squad but has his hands tied due to the FFP regulations and the club will first have to offload players before jumping in the market to buy.

The Toffees massively strengthened their midfield last summer with the transfers of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Jean-Philippe Gbamin is fit and ready to start his career at Goodison Park on a clean slate after almost two years of misery. Yet, the Toffees remain linked to central midfielders this summer, indicating that Benitez may want to further bolster the engine room.

Everton have been linked to wantaway Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa

According to TEAMtalk, Anguissa wants to leave Fulham this summer. Everton and Villa have been deemed as potential suitors. The Merseysiders were linked with the 25 year old back in May. But back then Carlo Ancelotti was at the helm and things happened differently at Goodison Park.

Nonetheless, if Anguissa is a real target, Everton will be at the highest alert as the Cameroonian looks to secure a move away from the Championship side. The Fulham midfielder is not keen on playing in the Championship and was left out of the squad against Middlesbrough.

Despite suffering relegation with Fulham twice, ironically, Anguissa has never played for the Cottagers in the Championship. When the London side suffered relegation at the end of 2018-19 season, the midfielder secured a loan move to Villarreal for the next season.

Last season, Anguissa was an integral part of Scott Parker’s side, playing 36 out of 38 Premier League games. Parker’s side failed to remain afloat in the Top Flight, succumbing to relegation. Now that Fulham will play in the Championship, Anguissa is not excited to play in the second division.

Former Toffee boss and current Fulham manager Marco Silva will not stand in the way of a sale with the Championship side expecting a bid of £20 million for the Cameroon international. If the Royal Blues do reignite their interest in Anguissa, they might face competition from Aston Villa who are also looking for a similar profile.
