According to reports today Inter Milan are not seriously considering signing Moise Kean from Everton and will instead turn their attention elsewhere.

The Italian giants need forward reinforcements after selling Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea and Everton striker Kean was rumoured to be on their radar but now it looks as though they are going elsewhere for a forward to replace the Belgian star.

If the Blues cannot offload their Italian forward then it will potentially seriously hamper their ability to sign new players before the transfer window closes in two weeks time.

As we all know the Toffees are very short of funds this summer as the club struggle to balance the books and cope with huge levels of debt made worse by the Covid situation over the past year.

Financial Fair Play rules also now mean Everton have very little room for manoeuvre as they and new manager Rafa Benitez try to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.

The most valuable asset the Blues have that they could and probably would realise is Kean and a move away seems what he wants and needs as well. Given his talent and success in France with PSG last season he should in theory fetch something like £40-50 million.

After his successful spell on loan in Paris, it looked as though the French club would be interested in signing him again but they only wanted a loan deal once more and Everton need a fee so that was the end of that.

Other stories claimed his former club Juventus were thinking of bringing him back to Turin but nothing substatial has come of those rumours.

If Inter’s interest in Kean has indeed gone dead then the Toffees have a problem. As far as new signings, there’s an obvious need for a new right-back and reinforcements in midfield and up front.

And on the evidence on Saturday’s match against Southampton with Micheal Keane’s unforced error, ideally Everton need another top class centre-back as well.

All of this will obviously cost and without substantial income from player sales, the Blues simply won’t be able to bring in the players needed to solve these positional problems.

After Kean, there is no other player who could command a substantial fee unless Everton were prepared to sell one of their top stars such as Richarlison or Lucas Digne.

That seems extremely unlikely, so if the Toffees can’t offload Kean they will have very limited room for adding new talent before this window closes unless Marcel Brands can pull off a few deadline day loan signings.

On another related story it looks as though Celtic are closing in on signing a new right-back, but it’s not Aurelio Buta who has also been strongly linked with a move to Goodison Park.

If this story is correct then it might clear the path for the Blues to bring in Buta and solve that right-back issue. As he would only cost around £3 million it looks like a deal that can be done without any player sales.

That would at least tick one transfer box and give Everton a young full-back to challenge newly confirmed club captain Seamus Coleman.
