The Return of Big Ben?

This is one that fans will have their fingers crossed for.

Everton haven’t seen Ben Godfrey play in blue since August 7th, when they were smashed 4-0 by Manchester United. Godfrey has arguably been Everton’s best player since he was signed in the previous summer transfer window. The former Norwich centre-back has been a rock at the back for Everton, offering a blend of defensive instinct along with elite athleticism and speed which allows him to keep up with even the fastest attackers.

Fans have really missed Godfrey, especially with the poor performances that Michael Keane has put in during the first two games of the season. Keane has already made two huge mistakes that lead to Everton conceding, one in each Premier League game he has played for Benitez. It’s clear to fans that Yerry Mina should be starting, with the big Colombian putting in a fantastic defensive performance against Leeds that really helped Everton secure a draw at Elland Road.

The Englishman is also a very progressive centre-back, offering a similar passing range to Keane while also having the ability to drive up the pitch with pace, something that can really catch opposing midfielders off-guard and offer Everton quick counter-attacking opportunities.

Godfrey can slide right back into Everton’s starting XI beside Mina, and if the two of them can hit form, then the Toffees will have a very strong centre-back partnership which could cause a lot of problems for Brighton’s attack.
