Everton are being linked with a late, last minute move for former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon. Is he the right man to strengthen the Blues strike-force?
With the transfer window nearly over Everton have just two more days to make the deals they want to and bring in fresh talent.
One area of the team that has needed additional depth for a while is the strike force. The Toffees are too reliant on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison for goals and of course there are renewed persistent rumours that the Brazilian might leave the club.
Looking at the current alternatives to those two, there is only an injury-prone Cenk Tosun or a couple of youth team forwards who have no Premier League experience.
The Blues were linked with several new strikers this summer particularly Lazio’s Joaquin Correa, but he has decided to go elsewhere and anyway was probably out of Everton’s price range given the club’s financial problems.
Manager Rafa Benitez has brought in two new wide attackers to take advantage in particular of Calvert-Lewin’s ability in the air and so he would likely want another centre-forward who was similar to the England intenational.

With the hours ticking until the transfer window slams shut, times is running out for the club to get someone in and attention has turned to Rondon.
The 31-year-old is currently in Russia with CSKA Moscow but has been playing in China where his former Magpies boss Benitez was coaching before he returned to England and Goodison Park.
Now Benitez apparently wants to be re-united with the centre-forward he managed at St James Park.
Rondon has similar qualities to Calvert-Lewin. He’s powerful and strong in the air and is a decent finisher although his goalscoring record isn’t exactly earth-shattering.
Given all that he’d probably make for a solid back-up to Calvert-Lewin who seems to be having slightly minor injury problems at the moment too.
Anyway, talks are apparently underway to see if a deal can be done to bring the Venezuela international back to England and the Premier League.
I would imagine it won’t be an expensive deal so shouldn’t be dependent on any outgoings such as Moise Kean’s proposed move back to Juventus.
Do you think Rondon would be a good addition to Everton’s striker ranks?
