Report: Everton to make final attempt to land €30 million man and offload James Rodriguez
The D-day is here. Everton are expecting a frantic and hectic transfer window deadline day as multiple incomings and outgoings could be on the cards. Most notably, the Toffees are trying to resolve the future of James Rodriguez while also being keen to add a winger to the roster. Luis Diaz of FC Porto is a prime target.
Everton also intend to add a backup striker in Salomon Rondon but the deal seems to be complicated at this point. Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is being viewed as a player who can add competition to the right back department.

Everton proposed a deal that would have seen the Merseyside club offer cash plus Rodriguez on a one year loan deal in exchange for the services of Diaz. However, the Portuguese giants rejected such a proposal as Porto were unwilling to include the 30 year old playmaker in the operation and were only open to accepting a big proposal.
This deterred Everton’s hopes to some extent but with the onset of transfer window deadline day, the Royal Blues are determined to make one final push for the speedy Colombian winger. Meanwhile, Rodriguez’s future still hangs up in the air as he tries his best to engineer a move away from Goodison Park.
Everton pushing to offload James Rodriguez and sign Luis Diaz
According to W Radio Colombia journalist Pipe Sierra, Everton will make one last attempt for Diaz, offering a fee in excess of €30 million plus Rodriguez. Porto are set to study that proposal and react accordingly.
Another stumbling block in this deal could be James’ salary. The former Real Madrid man pockets a handsome salary of £200,000 per week and Porto cannot afford such high wages. So if an agreement is to be reached, either the 30 year old must lower his wages or the Toffees might have to continue paying a part of his salary when he’s on loan at Porto.
Rafa Benitez wants to add a winger as his Everton system is taking shape. From the first four games of the season, one can deduce that the Spaniard is trying to establish a system in the team that can attack with breathtaking pace and directness and extract the maximum through lightning quick counter attacks. The focus is also on improved delivery in the boxes and so far the signings of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have sparkled in their respective roles.
It all depends on whether Porto accepts Everton’s proposal and is Rodriguez willing to join the Dragoes and accepting a potential wage cut. Should the Merseysiders manage to seal Diaz’s signing, Everton are going to house a world beater in making.
