Everton Player ratings for August: Demarai Gray sparkles, DCL unstoppable
Allan has been excellent for Everton
Midfielders:
Allan
Appearances – 3
Starts – 3
Minutes played – 270
Goals/Assists – 0/1
Rating – 8.5
Playing in a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1, Allan despite being the holding midfielder has got more freedom when Everton have the ball. He does not only act as a guardian to the defence but also makes some press breaking runs to ease the pressure, seen especially against Brighton. The Brazilian averages 3.67 successful tackles and 9.67 successful pressures per 90 minutes, featuring in top 1% of players in the Premier League.
Allan was excellent against Graham Potter’s side, making his presence felt in the middle of the field and being influential for the Toffees, arguably one of the best performances in an Everton shirt.
Abdoulaye Doucoure
Appearances – 3
Starts – 3
Minutes played – 270
Goals/Assists – 1/1
Rating – 8.5
Abdoulaye Doucoure has been an influential presence in the engine room. In the three games he’s played, he’s perfectly executed the role of being a box-to-box midfielder, contributing in attack as well as defence. He scored the wonder goal against Southampton that can be watched all day on loop.
The former Watford man’s steely performances have created a positive impact even on Allan, his partner in crime. If the duo manages to continue showcase such resilient and inspiring performances, Everton’s midfield worries will be diminished to a great extent.
Andre Gomes
Appearances – 2
Starts – 0
Minutes played – 42
Goals/Assists – 0/1
Rating – 7
Andre Gomes was unavailable for the season’s first two games, supposedly isolating. He returned against the Terriers and created an instant impact, assisting Andros Townsend’s goal. The Portuguese might not have a starring role in the midfield as Rafa Benitez goes with two central midfielders but he can still be an important player off the bench especially in games where his technical abilities and vision can come to good use.
Tom Davies
Appearances – 1
Starts – 1
Minutes played – 64
Goals/Assists – 0/1
Rating – 6.5
In one appearance, Tom Davies played some excellent passes out of which one was to Alex Iwobi who scored the goal for the Toffees. Davies seems to have a squad role as Rafa Benitez continues to prefer Allan and Doucoure. Just like Gomes, there will be games when Allan and Doucoure will be rested and Davies will have a chance to impress the new gaffer.
Fabian Delph
Appearances – 1
Starts – 0
Minutes played – 7
Goals/Assists – 0/0
Rating – 6
Fabian Delph came on as a substitute against Leeds and didn’t do anything wrong but didn’t do anything extra-ordinary as well. Rafa Benitez has pressed that he sees Delph as a squad option.
