Reports online today claim that Juventus and Wales star Aaron Ramsey prefers Everton to other Premier League clubs if he moves back to English football.

Ramsey was tentatively linked with a move to Everton in the summer but this was a potential deal that didn’t happen like so many others because of the club’s financial problems.

Now, the claim is that the Welshman would be interested in moving to Goodison Park if he was to leave Juventus and Italian football.

Ramsey has fallen out of favour in Turin and it seems the Italian giants would be willing to let him leave if there was serious interest from another club.

The big stumbling block for him is the huge wages he is on and this would make any move a real problem, especially to a club in the Toffees’ position.

The Welshman is a very talented player who offers both defensive and attacking skills and would certainly considerably improve the quality and depth of the Blues midfield.

So far this season the starting two in central midfield, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, have been outstanding with Doucoure in particular showing an attacking dynamism that we saw very little of last season.

They are key players in this new-look Everton side and play a fundamental role in enabling Rafa Benitez to operate his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

However, there is a lack of depth behind them with Jean-Philippe Gbamin yet again injured and seemingly unlikely to ever play again for any length of time and both Tom Davies and Andre Gomes still not convincing that they can produce consistently good enough performances.

So, the Toffees would be struggling in their engine room if one or other of the two starters were to get injured as both in fact did last season. Might Ramsey provide the needed additional option?

Apparently, Juventus are willing to consider a very small fee and according to this article will use some of the fee to pay Ramsey off and thereby make his transfer more affordable and attractive to other clubs.

Theoretically then, a move to Everton in January might be possible but while Benitez might have a bit of money for transfers in the new year window, I doubt Ramsey will be one of his main targets.

Would a move for Ramsey make sense for Everton?
