Everton striker Cenk Tosun’s troubled time at Goodison Park seems to come to an end. The player arrived in January 2018 when Sam Allardyce was in charge as the English boss tried to solve the goal scoring deficiency through Tosun.

Everton bid farewell to Romelu Lukaku in 2017 and didn’t invest in buying a poacher, a target man. Sandro Ramirez was signed from Malaga but the Spaniard had done very little to convince the Goodison faithful. Tosun was brought to provide a threat in the box and lead the Everton goalscoring duties.

Instead, the Turkey international has been underwhelming in the Everton colours. The former Besiktas man has just 11 goals in 58 Everton appearances, not a glowing endorsement for a striker. The Toffees offloaded him on loan to Crystal Palace in January 2020 but he picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury and was ruled out for approximately nine months. On his return to Everton, he made a few appearances under Carlo Ancelotti before returning to Turkey on loan in the winter transfer market.

The Turk suffered yet another horrific injury which saw his loan adventure end sooner. Meanwhile, at Everton, Salomon Rondon arrived as backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which sent an indirect message that Tosun was not in Rafa Benitez’s plans. The 30 year old is still recovering from his knee injury but has begun light training.

Besiktas eyeing Everton striker Cenk Tosun

In the summer, there were reports that stated Besiktas’ desire to sign Tosun but since the player was still recuperating, a deal would have not been a logical decision especially when the player’s wage demands stood at €3.5 million a year.

Now, according to Turkish outlet Sabah, Besiktas who were previously planning to launch an offer in January are now ready to wait until next summer when the striker will be available on a free transfer. Besiktas had earlier planned to launch an offer in January but they will now execute signing Tosun in summer when the conditions are better and in favour of the Turkish club.

However, with Tosun allowed to negotiate a pre-contract in January, Kara Kartallar could offer him an early deal. Tosun’s time at Goodison Park has not yielded the desired results.
