It’s very quiet at the moment in terms of Everton news with another round of internationals still to go before the Premier League returns at the weekend.

But there are still plenty of speculative transfer rumours as always and today stories claim Everton are interested in signing yet another different midfielder called Rodrigo Sanchez.

This all comes as a result of the club having got James Rodriguez off the books thus freeing up considerable potential resources

The Toffees are looking a much more integrated and effecient unit now under Rafa Benitez and Rodriguez’s effective replacement on the right wing, Andros Townsend, has already almost matched the Colombian’s goal tally from last season.

But, despite the obvious improvement in terms of attacking productivity between the end of the last campaign and this one, there is still a lack of depth and quality alternatives to Townsend and the other summer forward signing Demarai Gray.

And of course we saw a similar great start to last season before injuries hit and the fragile nature of Everton’s new-look attacking side at that time.

In central midfield the first-choice pairing of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have been outstanding but again injury could easily disrupt that.

Doucoure has contributed immensly to the Toffees attacking play but if he was missing then there is no one who you could see being able to step in and replace that dynamic offensive support.

So, there have been plenty of stories about this new midfield signing or that with several alledged targets from the summer being revived such as Aaron Ramsey and Donny van de Beek.

Now comes another rumour claiming the Blues are interested in the Real Betis player Rodrigo Sanchez who will supposedly be available for a small fee next summer.

The 21-year-old Spanish midfielder hasn’t played much football recently there isn’t a lot to go on and according to Whoscored.com he’s generally deployed on the right of midfield.

There is almost certainly nothing in this latest rather weak link but while finding a replacement at right-back for the ageing and oft-injured Seamus Coleman, there is certainly a need for more depth and options in midfield too.

So, no doubt we’ll keep seeing such stories especially as the January window moves ever closer.
