Dons right-back Ramsey would seem ideal Everton fit

Once again Everton are being linked with a January move for young Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsey as the new year transfer window rumours continue.

Ramsey was a player Everton were apparently tracking in the later part of the summer window along with another Scottish full-back Nathan Patterson of Rangers but nothing came of either potential move.

And as we know the club ultimately failed to bring in any competition for right-back Seamus Coleman when a deadline day move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles fell through.

Well now it seems that other Premier League clubs have been alerted to the teenager’s talent and so according to this report the Blues would face competition from Norwich and Leicester City as well as Manchester United if they made a move for him in January.

The 18-year-old has been having a fine campaign north of the border notching an impressive three assists already this season in the Scottish league.

Ramsey is a full-back who loves to get forward and would seem to tick all the boxes as far the Toffees are concerned as the search for a long-term replacement for Coleman continues.

He’s a player who enjoys getting down the flank and putting plenty of balls and crosses into the box (which is just what Everton are looking to do under Rafa Benitez) and he can also potentially operate further forward in midfield.

While it’s true that the Scottish Premiership is not on a par with England’s Premier League in terms of standards and quality, neverthless he looks like he might be a player who could step up a level and perhaps emulate his compatriot across Stanley Park, Andrew Robertson.

It’s a strange quirk that while the overall level of talent coming out of Scotland has declined in recent decades, they have a surfit of good full-backs at the moment with Robertson at Liverpool and Kieran Tierney at Arsenal as well as young starlets Patterson and now Ramsey emerging.

Anyway, given his age Ramsey looks a perfect player to try and sign and shouldn’t cost too much either at the moment.

Bringing in another right full-back has to be a huge priority for Everton in the next transfer window (although there are others) if a deal can be done. While there are several possible candidates Ramsey looks a good bet.

He’s young but already experienced and is a player who could be eased into the first-team, although he might adapt straight away. However, that could mean having to hope Coleman can still do it for another year or two, which given his injury history is a little risky.

What do you think, should Everton go for this young full-back or try for a player with more experience?
