Midfield:

Central midfield: Allan

Allan has been fantastic so far and has played out his role brilliantly. He’s there to mop around and make defensive contributions. Allan ranks in the top 1% of central midfielders in pressures applied, averaging 29.95 pressures per game. He has complemented Abdoulaye Doucoure who seems to be on a flawless run at the moment.

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure has been on a roll this season and has already matched his goal contribution (goals + assists) tally of last season in just eight games this term. The former Watford man has been a tireless workhorse who has kept the Everton engine running. His combative attitude helps Everton win the midfield battles while his box-to-box character aids Everton in attack, especially when the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are sidelined.

Left wide: Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi will return to the starting lineup after missing the game against Manchester United. The Nigerian has improved under Rafa Benitez and looks more confident on the ball. Anthony Gordon was energetic and showed attacking optimism in the last game but with Iwobi’s return, Gordon will be on the bench.

Right wide: Andros Townsend

Andros Townsend seems to be the favourite pick for Everton’s player of the season. The former Crystal Palace has eight goal contributions in nine games, having a flying start to his career at Goodison Park. Townsend’s duel with Cresswell will be an exciting one to watch. The 30 year old winger is also defensively committed and has appreciable work rate. In absence of Richarlison and DCL, Townsend is likely to take on the lead role in the team.
