Everton will face a potential battle with Premier League rivals Wolves if they want to revive a deal to sign Donny Van de Beek this January.

Reports in the media today claim the midlands club want to bring the Dutchman to Molinuex giving the Manchester United player an alternative to Everton in the new year transfer window.

The Toffees’ were rumoured to have tried to get Van de Beek in the summer and a deal was alledgedly close to being agreed before this was blocked by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Further stories about the former Ajax star have surfaced with repeated reports that the Blues’ continue to be interested in signing him.

Van de Beek had hoped for more playing time which was why he wanted to go and it was assumed that he would get more time on the pitch after Solskjaer denied him a move to Merseyside.

However, he hasn’t had that much increased playing time so far this season and the 24-year-old is it seems determined to find a way out of Old Trafford as soon as possible.

As we’ve mentioned before, Everton are looking to strengthen in the January window and another central midfielder and a wide attacking player are the supposed priorities.

This has been brought into greater focus by the injury to Abdoulaye Doucoure and the failure so far of Jean-Philippe Gbamin for example to find his best form.

I’m not sure Van de Beek is still on Benitez’s radar or that he is the right midfielder for the Toffees. He does possess some solid qualities and would on paper at least, provide a decent alternative to Rafa Benitez’s current options and strengthen the defensive resiliance of his team.

If the Blues’ are to make a move for anyone on the new year it’s likely to be probably loan deals and that again might not suit Van de Beek who may want a permanent move.

What do you think should Everton pursue Van de Beek in January?
