Everton spent just £1.7 million in the summer transfer window

Everton were crippled in the summer transfer window due to the Financial Fair Play which allowed them to spend only £1.7 million in the window. Everton did make improvements in the squad adding four players on free transfers and paying a modest release clause for Demarai Gray.

Gray and Andros Townsend are proving to be absolute bargains while Asmir Begovic provides a veteran presence as backup to Jordan Pickford. Andy Lonergan was brought as the third choice keeper after Joao Virginia left on loan. Lastly, Salomon Rondon arrived from China, reuniting with Rafa Benitez for the third time, providing backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The ongoing crisis at the club has proven that Everton desperately lack depth in certain areas. Everton’s lack of squad depth in attack has been exposed with backups like Rondon not rising up to the task. Rafa Benitez inherited a disjointed squad and has not had a proper chance to remodel the squad as per his desire.

Given that Everton freed up a big chunk of wages when they offloaded James Rodriguez, the club might have some spending room in the January window, with Benitez previously indicating his desire to seek reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Here are 3 positions Everton should try and reinforce in January:
