Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have been impressive in their debut season at Everton

2. Winger

Everton signed Gray and Townsend in the summer but Rafa Benitez was eyeing a third addition to the flanks with targets like Dwight McNeil, Leon Bailey and Luis Diaz chased throughout the summer transfer window.

The financial restrictions meant that the Royal Blues couldn’t acquire any of the aforementioned wingers but if an opportunity presents itself in January, Benitez will be on the look out to sign a winger.

Alex Iwobi hasn’t worked out. He is indecisive and loses the ball too often. His drop in confidence hasn’t helped his cause either. Anthony Gordon is cutting his teeth in the Premier League circus and making big strides towards development but the Toffees would surely love a player capable of making difference off the bench or coming clutch during rotation.

Gray gave an injury scare and if the miserable misfortune strikes, the Toffees could be left scarce and out of reliable options on the flanks. Signing a wide man could help Everton reinforce the flanks and give Benitez more options to play with.

Currently, Gordon, Gray and Townsend are doing a solid job but more needs to come out of Iwobi. Signing previously linked players may be difficult but Everton can again look for smart solutions.
