Fabian Delph can be a part of Everton’s midfield

Central defensive midfield: Fabian Delph

A change in formation to 4-3-3 would see Fabian Delph return to the side at the expense of Anthony Gordon. Delph’s inclusion will allow Everton have better control in the midfield and reduce the chances of being outnumbered in the middle of the park.

With Delph playing at the base, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure can enjoy advanced roles. The former Manchester City man is far more comfortable in possession than any other Everton midfielder and won’t easily lose the ball. He also has the ability to spray the ball around with accuracy, helping the team expand their play. This tactical tweak could make or break the match for Everton.

Central midfield: Allan

Allan would likely feature on the left side of central midfield and will be relieved to have fewer defensive duties. The Brazilian won’t be acting as a guardian to the rearguard but will get the freedom to press forward and make his famous press breaking runs.

This doesn’t mean, the 30 year old won’t have any defensive duties. If Liverpool put intense pressure, Allan will be forced to retreat and help Delph out in mopping up and guarding the defence.

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure can unleash himself on the right side of central midfield and showcase his combative nature. He just returned from an injury and is still getting into his rhythm. The Frenchman indicated that he will do everything possible to help the Toffees get a result in the derby.

Doucoure’s energy and box-to-box running can help Everton massively and a lot will depend on how much Doucoure defends and how quickly he joins the attack. Just like Allan, he too will have to do some defensive work as Liverpool are expected to have majority of the possession.

Everton are missing the peak Doucoure who was lighting up the league from midfield in the early stages. If the 28 year old can emulate such performance, the Royal Blues could stun the Reds.
