Everton: Three biggest Winners and Losers from Brentford vs Everton
Lewis Dobbin and Ellis Simms could have been options from the bench
LOSERS: Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin
Now this one might be controversial, how can Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin be ‘losers’ if they weren’t given a chance? It’s simple, they can’t control this, but the problem is if Rafa doesn’t see Simms or Dobbin as good enough to come off the bench, then are they ever going to be given a chance by the manager even if they deserve it?
Simms had a fantastic time on loan at Blackpool, playing a big part in the Seasiders promotion to the Championship, but after an injury, he wasn’t able to return to Blackpool or get the chance to prove himself in pre-season for the Toffees, but with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison out for the Brentford game, it was quite surprising that neither of the young strikers were even given a chance to come off the bench.
Dobbin is meant to be the next big thing at Everton, a technically gifted, pacey striker who can also play on the wing, Dobbin has been a top performer for both Everton’s U18s and U23s over the past two seasons, but the club still hasn’t given him a chance in the first team or even loaned him out to get some more experience, which is extremely questionable by the club.
There’s still a possibility that either one of these strikers are given a chance in the first time, but that would more than likely be under a new coach like Hjulmand who has proven over his tenure as Denmark boss that he is willing to give youth a chance, something Rafa doesn’t seem to be a fan of, preferring ‘reliable’ experience over youth players.
