There are further stories circulating that Everton have again sent scouts to watch Matheus Nunes play recently as the countdown to the January transfer window approaches.

This is a name that was endlessly connected with Everton during the summer window and there were even rumours that a deal had been close but as with so many of these stories nothing came of it.

The 23-year-old is a player that appeared to be of interest to people in the club although I’m not sure who exactly that was, Marcel Brands or Rafa Benitez?

At any rate given the Blues’ huge financial problems nothing happened as was also the case for another player who was alledgedly strongly on the Toffees’ radar in the summer: Denzel Dumfries.

Nunes does look a player who could offer additional creativity and goal threat from midfield and he joins another attacker plying his trade in Portuguese football who was also regularly on Everton’s radar and that’s Luis Diaz.

Diaz has also again recently popped up as a possible target of the club although the rumoured fee he would now require to prise him away from Porto is much higer of course and regardless of anything else that would price the Blues’ out of any possible deal.

I think it’s bascially pretty pointless to be honest speculating about potential transfers especially aorund players who let’s face it aren’t coming to Goodison Park given the crisis enveloping the team and given what an utter mess this club is in.

Unless the horrendous problems both on and off the field have been addressed properly it almost feels like a total waste of time signing anyone even in January other than a few loan deals perhaps to try and get the team out of this rut and stabalise the season before the whole cycle starts over.

The upcoming match against Arsenal takes place in the context of a supposed energency meeting of the board although few Evertonians are hopeful of anything significant happening now that would make a positive difference.

Something has to change though and soon or else this club could be staring down the barrel at relegation and that would be a disaster that this club might never recover from.
