A player who’s name has been regularly linked with a move to Everton has again popped up with yet more stories that he might be moving to Goodison Park.

That player is of course Aaron Ramsey. The former Arsenal midfielder is once more alledged to be a target of Everton with the January transfer window round the corner.

The fallout from all the recent manourering at Goodison which saw Marcel Brands leave last weekend, has left manager Rafa Benitez with a lot more power at the club, especially over transfer policy.

This is another big gamble by the club and owner Farhad Moshiri. Bringing in Benitez in the first place was a huge risk and one that depended on virtually everything going right for him and the team.

It didn’t of course, and before Monday night’s game against Ramsey’s former club there was increasing uncertainty over his future.

That win hasn’t solved all the problems with this team or with Benitez’s management, not in my view anyway. But, it was a much-needed positive and offered something to build on during a testing set of December fixtures.

Now though, Moshiri has put his trust and the future of his Everton ‘project’ much more fully in Benitez’s hands and he and we as Evertonians have to hope that proves to be a good decision.

Anyway, unless he loses every game from now until the end of December, it looks virtually certain that the Spaniard will still be in post when the transfer window opens and so he will get to spend whatever meagre resources the Blues’ have to bring in new players.

Could one of those players be Ramsey? According to today’s report the Toffees’ are still very much in the hunt for the Welsh international.

Juventus are desperate to get his wages off their books and apparently they are open to a ‘cheap deal’ to move the 30-year-old player on.

As I’ve mentioned before Ramsey is certainly a talented footballer and he’s got the sort of qualities that you imagine would strengthen Everton’s midfield.

His wages, age and history of injury problems would be the red flags to balance that out. And, anyway according to other reports the club won’t be looking at anything other than loan deals in January with a view to permanent transfers in the summer.

The report though claims Everton have already started talks with the Welshman about a possible move. I’ve no idea if that’s true, but a player of his quality and experience might well be a Benitez-type signing particularly if he comes for nothing.

Another player being mentioned as a possible target for the Blues’ is Giovanni Simeone who is also playing in Serie A. The son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego is having a fine season with Verona and supposedly is on the Toffees’ radar.

This one looks pretty unrealistic and I would imagine the Ramsey move would be the more likely of the two if either were on the cards in the new year.
