Inevitably with the January transfer window just around the corner there are an increasing number of stories linking Everton with new players.

Everton keep getting associated with moves for several stars currently playing their football on the continent and Aaron Ramsey has been mentioned repeatedly.

Now, another for Premier League star whose club are desperate to get his wages off the books is again an alledged transfer link.

That’s Philippe Coutinho, with more stories that the ex-Liverpool playmaker is on the radar of the Blues’ as they prepare for the window.

The Toffees’ have been linked with Coutinho for months now and yet again the Spanish media are claiming Everton are one of the intersted parties as his time at Barcelona comes to an end.

New Barca’ boss Xavi doesn’t see him and a number of other senior players as part of his re-building plans and so he will be allowed to leave Camp Nou, possibly in January.

Coutinho of course knows Merseyside well after a succesful spell at Anfield that ultimately got him a hugely lucrative move to La Liga.

The 29-year-old is certainly a hughly talented forward and if that was all he might well make a good option to strengthen the Blues’ attacking resources.

However, Coutinho’s age and a long history of injury problems, plus his very expensive wages make him an unlikly and frankly less then ideal signing.

As we saw against Chelsea in Everotn’s last Premier LEague match several of the young players in the squad made a good impression.

And, while it’s obviously still far too early to be confident they will all become regulars in the side, an emphasis on young, hungry players would seem the best strategy.

Brining in expensive paid ageing players comeing toweards the end of their career, doesn’t seem to be the right strategy.

If the Toffees’ were one or two quality, experienced players from being successful it might be the right approach, but what this team needs is an injection of pace, power and desire.

So, even though I very much doubt there is anything to this story other than speculation, I would not advocate Everton moving for the Brazilian.
