Everton’s wage bill stands at around £90 million per season

Unlike previous January transfer windows, Everton have been proactive since the start of the window and have already announced two signings worth £30 million. Vitaliy Mykolenko arrived from Dynamo Kyiv for a deal worth £17 million and Nathan Patterson joins the Toffees with Rangers receiving £12 million and another potential £4 million in add-ons.

This is a significant jump in spending compared to a dormant summer that saw Everton spend just £1.7 million in the transfer window. With a significant amount spent, Everton will now seek to offload some players and generate capital just to make sure that they don’t violate the Profit and Sustainability rules.

Offloading players either permanently or temporarily on loan will also lighten the load on the wage budget, freeing up funds for new arrivals. While the full back area has been bolstered, Rafa Benitez could still plan a midfield rejig, bringing in a midfielder.

Everton previously freed up £200,000+ per week in wages when they offloaded James Rodriguez in September. With the winter transfer window now open, there is room for more as the Toffees could sell or loan outcasts and save cash for transfers. If the Royal Blues manage to offload these five players, they could potentially save up to £9.43 million in half yearly wages.
