Inter Milan central defender Stefan De Vrij, an alleged target of Everton, would welcome a move to the Premier League according to reports today.

The 29-year-old Dutch defender is yet another player Everton have been persistently linked with over the past few months.

According to this piece he would be prepared to consider a move to England as the next stage of his career, despite still being a regular in the Inter team.

Like most Italian clubs the Milan giants are seriously cash-strapped and so are prepared to sell a number of players they might otherwise not do to recoup much-needed funds. So, de Vrij could well be on his way to another club, perhaps even this month.

The Holland international is certainly a solid and very experienced central defender and he’s also strong in the air, something that would help a Blues’ side struggling to effectively defend set-plays.

In addition, de Vrijs is an excellent passer of the ball with an overall accuracy percentage of about 90% during his career. So, in theory he could provide plenty of savvy, quality and experience to what is becoming an increasingly youthful-looking defence.

This sort of move might make a bit more additional sense as stories of Yerry Mina’s possible departure gather pace again. Could he be a replacement for the injury-prone Colombian?

But, having said that his age and the fee are probably equally good reasons why this player would be unlikely to join Everton, even if he was of interest to the club. Together with the fact he’s probably going to want Champions League football, something he’s more likely to get with the other main English club linked to him; Tottenham.

In a further story involving Everton and Inter, the Italian club are keen to get rid of another player who has apparently already been offered to the Toffees, and that is former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez.

In a slightly bizarre claim, the idea is that Sanchez would come to Merseyside for free to replace one or other of Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin should one of them depart in this window, as rumours of Arsenal’s interest in the England striker continue.

The 33-year-old Chilean is another experienced international player on big wages that Inter would like to get off their books with Everton supposedly now being offered his services.

This transfer seems an even more dubious one than de Vrij, and I can’t see a move for Sanchez being seen by anyone to represent an adequate replacement for Calvert-Lewin, if the club sanctioned his move away this month.
