Everton and Hull City played out an entertaining FA Cup 3rd Round tie on prime time TV which required extra-time to decide who would go into the hat for the next round.
After being on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller on Sunday against Brighton, this time Everton were on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline against Championship strugglers Hull City.
Rafa Benitez made four changes from the side against Brighton. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was rested completely after feeling his thigh after his comeback. Mason Holgate, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Jordan Pickford were benched and replaced by Solomon Rondon, new signing Vitaliy Mykolenko, Andre Gomes and Asmir Begovic.
Hull put out a fairly strong side despite having their own Covid issues and only playing once in the last 2 weeks.
Both sides started out with a 3-5-2 formation and Hull begun like you would expect from the underdog, although taking the lead inside 45 seconds stunned everyone watching. Everton managed to turn this around by half-time through Demarai Gray and Gomes getting on the scoresheet.
Hull managed to equalise again with 20 minutes to go, but substitute Andros Townsend got the long range extra-time winner.
Still Everton had to thank Begovic for the passage into the 4th Round as he made a great save to deny Eaves who had viciously struck a close range volley.
Although Everton are through, a banner was visible all game showing the fans unhappiness with Benitez.
