Everton have already secured three January deals but are still hoping to do more transfer business before the deadline day. Despite adding Anwar El Ghazi on loan from Aston Villa, the Toffees are eyeing another winger – Dejan Kulusevski.

Everton were in desperate need of wingers in the summer which is when they signed Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend. Alex Iwobi continues to fail under different managers. The Nigerian had an extremely poor output under Rafa Benitez. While Anthony Gordon has risen to the occasion and impressed all, Everton needed an alternative for Iwobi.

While El Ghazi has arrived, the Toffees had been looking for a hybrid attacker in Kulusevski. The Swede primarily operates as a right winger but is comfortable in the role of a secondary striker and even on the right side of midfield.

The 21 year old has played 27 games, featuring for 972 minutes this season and has found the back of the net just twice. Kulusevski has at times struggled to find game time amid the presence of Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado. Earlier in the season, the 21 year old played second fiddle to Federico Chiesa before the former Fiorentina man picked up a cruciate ligament injury ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Everton were interested in Dejan Kulusevski

Everton had strongly surveyed for Kulusevski, as per TEAMtalk. Kulusevski could be offloaded in the winter market and a loan deal was probably on the cards. However, Kulusevski wasn’t excited to join Everton or any club that was so close to the relegation zone as per Sport Witness. Furthermore, the offer made by Everton wasn’t entirely convincing either.

The Toffees would take Kulusevski on a short loan and then keep the option of making the signing permanent in the summer. This idea didn’t convince the Old Lady nor was it exciting for the Swede.

Now, it appears, that the Everton target is on course to join Tottenham Hotspur who have failed in their previous two winger pursuits. Adama Traore and Luis Diaz were targets for Spurs but neither of them made a move to North London. As per Sky Sports, Spurs are in talks with Juve for a loan deal.

Everton should now shift their focus on signing a midfielder as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph have been sidelined for several weeks. The Toffees hover just above the relegation zone and they need all the squad depth possible to overcome this challenge.
