Everton are familiar with the talents of Ross Barkley

3. Ross Barkley

Perhaps, the Everton fan base will be widely divided on this one. Some till day treat Ross Barkely as a traitor and do not want to see him anywhere close to the club. But the fact is that Everton do need quality midfielders and Barkley happens to be one available.

Barkley has just played 428 minutes of football this season and has just started one Premier League game. He is far behind in the pecking order with rotational options Loftus-Cheek, Saul and others comfortably ahead of him.

Chelsea are open to offloading Barkley even on a permanent basis. The 28 year old was a key member of Chelsea under Frank Lampard, playing 34 games and providing 11 goal contributions (six goals, five assists) in the 18 month period.

With Lampard set to take over the reins at Everton, he might dwell into the idea of bringing Barkley back to the club where his journey began but that poses a major risk of angering a faction of fans who despise the 28 year old.

The Englishman has all the typical skill sets of an attacking midfielder. He flourishes when given the freedom to run with the ball and use his lethal shooting skills. His arsenal consists of all tools required to succeed as a modern day midfielder but not many managers have been able to unlock his weapons. His commanding physical presence and raw athleticism bodes well while his capability to operate as a creator in the middle of the pitch act as the cherry on top.

Lampard’s counsel activated the potential of Barkley at Chelsea which hasn’t been replicated ever since. If the 43 year old does manage to convince the Everton board to sign or acquire Barkley on loan, the midfielder could find his feet again and possibly in the process win back the support of the ardent Toffees.
