Donn van de Beek could also be in line to start his first game for Everton

Midfield:

Central defensive midfielder: Allan

Having three in the midfield will certainly aid Everton’s cause. Under previous manager Rafa Benitez, Everton were constantly overrun in a two man midfield. Similarly, in the game at St James’ Park, Allan and Andre Gomes struggled to control the tempo.

In an intense game against Leeds, Everton will need an extra man to not only absorb Leeds’ pressure but also make those press breaking runs. Ideally, Delph would have done well in the No 6 role in Lampard’s system but since he’s injured and the Toffees couldn’t bring Idrissa Gueye, Allan will sit ahead of the backline.

Central midfield: Andre Gomes

In a possession heavy side, Gomes can bring out the best in him. He had a spectacular performance against Brentford but had a dull performance against the Toons where nothing was going his way. With an extra man in the midfield, the Portuguese will have a bit more freedom and room. Gomes may not be a goal threat but he acts as a player to spray passes forward and be an integral part of the buildup.

Central midfield: Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek did have a positive impact coming on as a substitute in the game against Newcastle. The Dutchman could start ahead of Dele Alli, given the kind of impact he had. Perhaps, against an opposition like Leeds having Van de Beek over Alli will be a smart selection.

Leeds do attack quickly, leaving spaces to exploit which the Manchester United loanee can do. He can spray passes and split the defence while also adding goal threat in the final third.
