Everton travel to Southampton with the hope to extend the gap from relegation zone

After the electric performance against Leeds United, Everton are finally in high spirits after a series of lamentable performances under Rafa Benitez. With rediscovered hope under Frank Lampard, Everton travel to Southampton with the aim to further distance themselves from the relegation battling sides.

The Toffees currently sit 16th in the table with 22 points. They have one game in hand in comparison to 15th placed Leeds and 17th placed Newcastle. Everton have three games in hand as to Brentford who are 14th in the table. The Saints are 10th in the table with 29 points as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side aims to float in the top half of the Premier League.

Lampard will have to make do without Demarai Gray, Yerry Mina, Tom Davies and Fabian Delph. Finally, some stars have aligned in Lampard’s favour as Vitaliy Mykolenko is ready to return. Astonishingly, Abdoulaye Doucoure trained with the side and is well ahead of his stipulated recovery schedule and could be available for selection against the Saints.

After the domineering performance by the set of players that played against Leeds, it would be harsh on anyone to get dropped but few changes may be made by Lampard keeping in mind Southampton’s style.

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford

Jordan Pickford kept a clean sheet after ten Premier League games. He was largely untroubled by the Leeds’ attack except for Rodrigo’s couple of long distance rockets being thrown at him to deal with.

Southampton have averaged 13.2 shots per game this season and present a sizeable threat through Armando Broja and Che Adams. Pickford could indeed have a busier night than he had a week ago.
