Alex Iwobi could continue to feature ahead of Townsend in the Everton lineup

Midfield:

Left wide midfield: Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon was terrific against Leeds, as he has been all season. The 20 year old is fast becoming an indispensable name in the lineup. Lampard has been left in awe of the player who has shown tremendous promise and made huge strides this season. Gordon did manage to get a lucky goal which was originally Richarlison’s effort last game.

Gordon will have a fierce battle with Kyle Walker-Peters as the 20 year old will be actively seeking to be a goal threat throughout the game.

Central midfield: Donny van de Beek

After the sort of performance he put last week, Donny van de Beek is a player that cannot be dropped from the starting lineup. He had the most tackles, most passes and most aerial duels won against Leeds, showcasing his brilliant all round display in the middle of the park.

He is the conductor that Everton were crying for and finally having someone like him in the system, makes the side a well-oiled machine.

Central midfield: Allan

Allan played the role of sitting behind and winning the ball back. He expertly orchestrated the role while also making some runs forward when space opened up. The Brazilian was well supported by Van de Beek.

Even though Doucoure has returned to training, there’s little pressure on Lampard to reinstate Doucoure back into the team as the duo of Allan and Van de Beek are blossoming in the heart of the midfield. Perhaps, not rushing Doucoure is a wise decision and giving him a run in the final few minutes should be the idea.

Right wide midfield: Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi also had the best performance of his Everton career against Leeds United. The Nigerian was all over the pitch, making runs forward, committing defensively and covering spaces. If these are the kind of performances he can put in week in week out, Lampard will have a selection headache once Gray returns.

Iwobi is prone to inconsistency and he has to avoid such a repeat against the Saints. The 25 year old could jump Andros Townsend in the pecking order if his solid performances continue.
