Abdoulaye Doucoure’s return is a huge boost for Everton

Midfield:

Central midfield: Allan

Allan had a horrible game against the Saints. His reckless challenge earned him an early yellow card and ever since that incident, the Brazilian was never able to fully commit himself in winning the ball back or put in necessary challenges to dislodge the opposition off the ball. With the risk of a red card he came off at half time but the inclusion of Andre Gomes proved to make matters more difficult for the Toffees.

Allan has to be trusted with breaking the play and putting in a magnanimous shift against the fluid Manchester City. Everton will be heavily reliant on Allan to guard the backline and provide all the necessary support to stop the City attack.

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure has returned after missing five weeks of action due to groin injury. The player’s return will be the final jigsaw that completes the Everton midfield. A three man midfield has always proved to be far more effective than playing a two man midfield and Doucoure’s return will facilitate the use of a three man midfield.

The 29 year old will have to perform defensive duties but he will also be tasked with supporting the attack whenever possible. The soon to be Malian international has the combative nature to win the ball and also make progress up the field.

Central midfield: Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek has become a fan favourite in a matter of weeks after his sturdy performances in the middle of the park. With the return of Doucoure, Van de Beek might be given the license to surge further forward and take chances in and around the goal area.

His precision passing and vision might be very important for Everton in counter attacks as the Merseysiders will have to be accurate and lethal on counters.
