We are still months away from the summer transfer window again but the rumour mill has started churning. It has been reported that Everton are keeping track of CF Montreal ace Djordje Mihailovic.

Recently, Everton announced that Kevin Thelwell had taken over the vacant role as Everton’s director of football after Marcel Brands was relieved of his duties in December. Thelwell does come with an impressive CV, having been head of recruitment, head of youth development and finally the sporting director at Wolves.

Thelwell went overseas, joining as sporting director at New York Red Bulls. It does seem that Thelwell seems to have brought a list of potential targets from MLS that can be a solid fit for Everton.

USA international Mihailovic had a stunning season with CF Montreal even though the Canadian side finished 10th in the Eastern Conference.

Everton tracking CF Montreal ace Djordje Mihailovic

According to French media outlet Jeunes Footeux, Mihailovic is being followed by a number of European clubs as he continues to spread his magic in the MLS. Last season, the 23 year old registered an impressive 20 goal contribution tally (4 goals, 16 assists), ending up as second highest assist getter behind Carles Gil.

Everton are surely one of the teams tracking him but they are not alone. A myriad of clubs have been following Mihailovic’s progress. Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma, Bologna, Atalanta, Olympique Lyon, Lille, Lens, Newcastle and Leeds have been mentioned as admirers of the 23 year old.

He is one of the most exciting prospects in the MLS and a number of European sides could battle for him in the upcoming transfer windows. Mihailovic is contracted with Montreal until December 2023 and the club have an option to extend his deal by one more season. Given the buzz around the attacking midfielder, Montreal may cash in on him to get a huge profit.

As per Transfermarkt, the midfielder’s market value stands at £4.5 million and Montreal aren’t ready to part ways with him for less than £6.7 million which will be very economical for the interested European teams.

In the coming days, we might not be surprised if Everton end do end up getting linked to MLS players because of Thelwell’s presence. Things could start to build up as we inch closer to the summer transfer market.
